It's a big one: Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer. This issue is a little different: we've expanded beyond our usual UWS radius to round up the best of what's within about an hour of the city too, from Brooklyn to Long Island to the Hudson Valley. Nothing new to report on my end this week, just soaking up these last few days before school starts back up.
One neighborhood note: most NYPL branches (Bloomingdale, St. Agnes, Riverside) are closed Saturday through Labor Day this week, so library programming below is limited to Friday only.

| NYC Unicycle Festival: Brooklyn Bridge to Coney Island Ride @ starts at Brooklyn Bridge, 2–6 PM (approx), all ages welcome to watch or join. A long-distance group ride of unicyclists heading from the Brooklyn Bridge down to Coney Island. Free. Part of the citywide NYC Unicycle Festival (Sept 3–6); the more toddler-friendly street festival lands in Jackson Heights this Saturday and Sunday instead. |
| Little New-Yorkers: Equality's Call @ New-York Historical, 3:30–4:30 PM, all ages. Storytime and crafts on the story of voting rights. Museum admission required. |
| The Met's Summer HD Festival @ Josie Robertson Plaza, Lincoln Center, 7:30 PM (I Puritani). Free outdoor opera screenings run all weekend (Fri–Mon, a different opera each night, ~2,500 seats, first-come first-served). 9/11 Day of Service
This year marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, and in observance of the milestone, New York Cares is once again partnering with 9/11 Day to organize the largest day of service ever staged in America. Join for a four-day event aboard The Intrepid (Tuesday, September 8–Friday, September 11) to turn a day of remembrance into action. Teen-friendly, so this is a good one to bring older kids along to.
