Bom dia from the Douro Valley on our last day in Portugal. It's been a wonderful trip, but I'm ready for NYC. Camp starts Monday, the Sunday scaries are creeping in, and I've already pre-ordered groceries but I’m sure I missed something!
One transition tip our teachers shared that we're trying this weekend: create a simple photo book (or just a phone album) that walks your child through their new routine. Start with getting ready at home, then include photos of camp or school, where they'll meet, their counselors, activities, and finally coming home. It's a simple way to make the unknown feel familiar, and I'll be using a crafty version (a phone picture slide show) with our toddler this weekend.

Highlights for a festive 4th of July
July 3:
1-3pm: Class B tall ships from around the world sail down the East River from Hell Gate Bridge to Sandy Hook, NJ. Check out the full list of events here.
11:59pm ET: Watch the ball drop at Times Square (or catch the broadcast). If you’re feeling brave, catch it in person. The ball will drop 8 times (in Guam, Puerto Rico, and more) and there will be musical performances. More details to come on how to stream once available.
July 4:
12-2:30pm, Summer Social: July 4th! @ The New York Historical Society, adults $24 ages 17 and under free.
7:30am-9am: International Naval Review, Navy Grey Hull ships from around the world will dock along the Hudson River for a full showcasing.
9am-2pm: Grand review of tall ships at Governor’s Island. Tickets are available for the premier event but you can still go to Governor’s Island to see the ships. Just make sure you purchase your ferry tickets before given the crowds.
9:30am-2pm: Class A Tall ships will sail the Hudson River from the Verrazzano Bridge to the George Washington Bridge.
8pm, The 50th Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, catch it live on near the Brooklyn Bridge, Hudson River, or the East River. More location details soon. Can’t make it? Catch the show on Peacock.
July 5-7, free viewing of 250 Tall ships located at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Sail City (The Intrepid & Manhattan Cruise Terminal), South St Seaport, and Staten Island Waterfront Park. Book your free tickets now.
